MYOSKELETAL MEDICINE

15–16/5/2010 – Innovative course of myoskeletal medicine for physicians – Prague Association for Myoskeletal Medicine ČLS JEP   .....

FIRST EXPERIENCES WITH PLASMA-ASSISTED TREATMENT

19–21/5/2010 – 14th National Congress of the Czech-Slovak Orthopaedic Association

Lecture: First experiences with ACP ( Autologous Conditioned Plasma )

Authors: Dr. F. Picek, Dr. Z. Gleta, Dr. V. Havlas, PhD; ORP CENTRUM Prague

After processing the information from patients that we treated by injecting modified plasma for degenerative ailments of knee joints (gonarthritis II.-III.st.), we presented our first experiences to the National Congress Forum. We evaluated the data of the patients after at least 3 months following the final injection. The patients answered the supernational questionnaire (Western Ontario McMasters University Osteoarthritis Index).

MENISCUS TRANSPLANTATION

27–29/8/2010 – Masters Experience Course – Advances in Knee Surgery Cartilage Focus

AANA – Arthroscopy Association of North America USA, Rosemont, Illinois;

Advanced course for professional surgeons on the theme of Meniscus Transplantation. Osteochondral allografts and autographs, autologous chondrocyte transplantations, tibial osteotomy, unicompartmental knee replacements.

A 3-day course held by the Arthroscopic Association of North America (AANA) for experienced orthopaedists specializing in arthroscopic operations. During the course, discussions were held on experiences and operational methods carried out by American surgeons focused on the treatment of damaged joint surfaces - cartilage. In addition to the methods we carried out, each of us had the possibility to demonstrate a meniscus transplant on our own anatomic specimen as well as a corrective operation of a disturbed axis of long bones, the transfer of bone-cartilage blocks taken from the patient’s knee or prepared in biological banks from human donors. The discussion on the treatments of specific diagnoses and patients was particularly beneficial.

It is clear that the philosophy of treatment is focused primarily on the repair of the anatomical relationships of damaged joints, the transplantation of cartilage and meniscus from deceased donors and the transfer of eventual implantation of artificial joints to a higher patient age.

Access to such transplants in the Czech Republic, unfortunately, is minimal.
